Community Supported Agriculture (or CSA) is a way for local farmers and their communities to support each other throughout the growing season. It’s a direct connection between your plate and our fields, allowing you to be intimately involved in the way your food is grown. Traditionally, the CSA allows farmers to buy the supplies needed to start the season, and lets them know who will be buying the food before it’s even grown! In exchange for signing up for a CSA, the farmer shares the bi-weekly harvest with their CSA members. When you sign up for a CSA with Ashbourne Farms, you not only get a harvest of organically grown vegetables picked fresh for you, but you become part of our farm. Our CSA members are at the ROOT of our vegetable garden, and we’re looking forward to a bountiful Winter CSA season!!
In our traditional sized, FULL Share, you can expect a variety of 7-9 vegetables each week. In times of plenty you will get more (think of preserving) and in times of scarcity there will be less. Sometimes we trade with other local farmers who use practices consistent with our farming methods in order to provide you with a more well rounded basket, and sometimes your baskets will just be smaller. In any case, over the course of the season, the value of produce received, will exceed the cost of your share.
In the winter we grow lots of fresh greens for cooking and salads, carrots, beets, broccoli, cauliflower, potatoes, onions, winter squashes and more.
